Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general reporter with NBC News two years later. In 1981 began working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell travelled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss topics like that of the Iran Contra scandal.
