Having been first inspired by the shadows of trees that she saw in the grass, she did a lot of exploring a process that didn't present the chosen object in a two-dimensional form on canvas. Instead, the object is transformed into a representation of the subject, where the surface transforms into the medium for it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly when the subject is living or perishable items for example, like humans or fruit. Alexa's style of painting is very ephemeral. Only the photographs of her work survive. Photography and painting techniques closely synchronized, which results in a flat two-dimensional area that is trompe l'oeil. Certain areas of the photo, like the hair or eyes, reveal the three-dimensional dimension. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models with the 3-dimensional environment around them, which allows the models to be part of their own self-created environment. Thus, the boundary between photography and painting is dissolved.
